Ashley S. Hernandez Ibarra
My name is Ashley Hernandez, currently a senior at Ronald Reagan High School. My main interests and hobbies include drawing, martial arts, travelling. From a young age I have found a passion towards art. I grew up in a neighborhood where art was everywhere and raised in a family where art was appreciated. I was exposed to drawing in grade school and did not begin drawing realistically until recently. Trying to look into new mediums I came across product design and packaging and found a passion towards it.
The entire body of work has gone through multiple ideas and perspectives, but they all tie to the theme of Global Issues, more specifically social and political issues currently going on. I tried to explore as many issues through perspectives, as well as incorporating things learned from my Global Politics class. I also |
included some of my thoughts, personal experiences, and my own perspective into the pieces. The body of work was created to bring awareness, and display different perspectives to the viewer, as well be able to show the amount of historical events that one person could go through .
When beginning I believed I would have always done drawing or painting, that is because they were the only mediums I had known, and got an opportunity to experience. However I did get the chance to explore various mediums, and find a passion in mixed media. Although I do believe my favorite and strongest pieces are the drawings, I can easily showcase the idea across both technically and figuratively. When exploring new mediums, for example, dry point and block print, I made sure to learn and allow myself to experience the materials first. I think by doing so it allowed me to be able to showcase the idea, but very limited.
Artistic inspiration was separated into two sections, most of the Artist inspirations came from other artists for example, Celia Amroune, Aline Kpade, and the art installations in Brazil. All having in common creating pieces based on political issues. Reuters, Untitled was done to talk about the female physical abuse, while the Black Lives Matter, Digital Illustration, was done to talk about the racial disadvantage. The second section were some historical paintings, like the Creation of Adam in The Creation of Disappearance. All of these were done to show the evolution of time, all which once again tie to historical events.
The way I displayed my exhibition was created to almost show a timeline of how the issues came about and took over the news outlet. Majority of the inspiration did come from the news, all from the BLM protests in the United States to the Uighur Concentration Camps in China. By displaying the art pieces in a timeline the viewer is able to see every single event that can happen in a certain time period, one after the other.
