Inspiration
My inspirations came from Coles Phillips's artworks. I was attracted to Phillips's art work because of simplicity of colors as presentation. In most of his works he includes a women doing a natural pose, but what is unique is how he decided to use the same colors of the background on the women's outfits. I was very interested because it did make it seem as it the clothing would disappear in a sense. Coles Phillips also had very simple organic shapes, which I believe would go well with my art piece.
Specifically I was inspired by three of his fade away girls.

Planning
For the sketches I struggled quite a bit to figure out what I wanted to do. I drew whatever came to mind based on the brainstorming ideas, but as I sketched I ended up changing the meaning of my paintings.

Process
The first thing I did was create all three panels and gesso the canvases. I built the wooden structure, cut and stretched the canvas to size. After that I painted the backgrounds, green, blue, and a mix of both for one of the panels. After painting all canvas and let that dry. I chose green because in the Latin community the color symbolizes hope, blue means calmness and sadness, and white is purity. After painting the background I quickly sketched the proportions of everything, just to know where to paint what color. I did work on the first panel, first because it was the one that would take the most time. After I got a head start for the first one I did the basic white colors for the rest. All furniture I decided to do white then do some light grey lines to show drawers. In my researcg I did notice most of Coles's furniture is white and has some grey or light color outline. Besides that I did have to go back multiple times with white paint to get the color all the same tones, since there is a colored background the white would show in some sections and darker in others. I then worked on the head and hair, mainly every body part that would not be clothes, because the clothes would be the color of the background. For the hair I started off with a base color and added a variety of brown strokes and slightly blended those in. Lastly I did some last minute details and shadows to some of the clothes, as well as skin tones and hair. I did have to go over some things a couple times because of the lighter colors I used on top of a dark background.

Experimentation
For the experimentation, I had to practice painting skin tones and hair. I did struggle a bit getting the skin tone correct. I used a different shades f brown and black, this would be used as the shadows, and then a mixture of brown and whites, to use as the lights. For the hair I started off with a dark brown base color and added different shades of browns using a thin brush, I continuously added thin strokes of a variety of browns blacks and whites. As I did this I tried blending the colors just a little bitso the hardness wouldn't be so eye bugging.
Reflection
Personally I think I could have done better, in using Cole Philip's style, as well as executing it better . I did struggle a bit in getting some of the proportions correct and having everything in the same perspective. Before this I have never painted myself, which I do think was a challenge, as well as painting hair. There was so much detail involved in both when it came to hair, which is why I think it was challenging. I had to practice before hand on how to paint the hair realistically. I did learn it was best to have a base color and add to different section. In terms of color I think I went a bit to simple. Coles tends to mix colors to create one solid one. I used secondary and primary colors, then for the third panel I mixed the secondary and primary color. With more time and more practice on the techniques I do believe these paintings could have turned out better.

Coles tends to sponsor a store or product, usually in the point of view of a costumer women.
3. What kind of generalizations and conclusion have you discovered about people, ideas, culture, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
Philip had ideas of creating artwork using simple shapes, colors, and minimal detail in shading
4. What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
The central idea is showing how my existence has impacted the city, how the city has impacted me, and how I see myself.
