Inspiration
Inspiration came from two different places, the first being from Claude Monet's painting, Women in the Garden, and from old school Disney movies. I've always had a fascination towards the real life Disney stories, where the princesses never got their happily ever after, this is when I came up with the idea of the protagonist and antagonist. I looked for more inspiration through movies, and came across the movie Bambi which I used as a reference to my "old school" style. I noticed there was a thin black outline of the animals and was debating on whether to incorporate it or not. In the scenes there were softer colors used and there was less detail involved, which gave the background an abstract feel. The inspiration for the characters came from Disney. I decided to include at least one animal just to show how there are also animal protagonist. I choose 3 different princesses from Disney, and then two villains from Disney and one antagonist animal. The layout of the art pieces came from Monet's, Women in the Garden. Both the illustrations had to be connected in some way, I used Monet's painting mainly for the Protagonist side. With nature as the back ground represented beautifully, I thought it would represent the protagonists very well. I then thought about the antagonists, and said to myself, "Well if the opposite if protagonist is antagonist, the layout and the background should be the same as well." I decided to have the same layout, but flip it 180 degrees; instead of having trees full of green and a nice blue sky, I created the exact opposite, using dim colors, dead trees, and using antagonists. The techniques in both the Bambi scenes and the painting, have the background as more abstract and softer feel. In order to incorporate that detail, I decided to have the sky and anything earth wise, to have a variety of colors without blending them too much.

Planning/ Process
Sketches
I did not make a final sketch because I only did sketches to see the different ideas I had come up with during the brainstorming process. The first one was to show Temporary vs. Permanent which was represented by the native american symbol. The sketch on the bottom was to show Trapped vs Freedom. This sketch was made in order to show a person who is trapped within their own head.

Once I had my topic I then had to choose my characters and figures I wanted to include in the illustration. I randomly decided both the protagonist and antagonist. For the protagonist I chose, Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, and Bambi. Found multiple pictures of the characters, which helped reference how I would pose them. When looking at reference pictures I made sure to have scenes from the original movies, because they are the ones that correlate to the old Disney. I tried keeping most of the same colors from the movies scenes because I wanted to really capture the whole "Old School" Disney technique. I then did the exact same process for the Antagonist.
Reflection
In the beginning of the process I was very pleased with it, but now looking back I think I could have done better technically speaking. I do believe with more attention to detail, both illustrations could have been executed better. That being said, with this being my first time doing an illustration using only color pencils I think it turned out good. During the brainstorming process I did come across some difficulties on choosing what I would like to do. I did change my topic about 3 times, which may be a reason on how my final piece turned out to be.
The research I did helped me expand more on my knowledge of different styles, as well my understanding on the difference of modern Disney and old Disney. Some observations I saw from old Disney were: including motion lines, using basic colors, black outlining, and the background being more translucent with its colors. With future project I hope to include these skills to better the overall quality and technique.

ACT Responses
1. Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your work.
In the older Disney style there was a sense of simplicity, which is shown in my art pieces by limiting the amount of details
2. What is the overall approach (point of view) the author (from the research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration?
Disney mainly focuses on the children's point of view and show how the good will always out-win the bad
3. What kind of generalizations and conclusion have you discovered about people, ideas, culture, etc. while you researched your inspiration?
Disney created things based on children's' perspective, which is why much of there sketches and drawings are simple
4. What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research?
Protagonist Vs. Antagonist, two opposing view points of a story
5.What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research?
children view things in a much more simple lens
